I read book two before book one, so I can’t compare yet, but DAMN. Diana and Shane set a high frickin’ bar.
At first I was surprised this book was as long as it was, but the pacing was perfect and the plot kept serving these powerful moments with serious heat and heart. It gave the sexual tension time to build and let the frenemies to lovers arc really deliver.
I want to live at their apartment complex. The HOA meetings, the group chat, the layout, it seems awesome. Also, Niall is the MVP of the book - his oversensitive hearing came in clutch when Diana needed a hero!
I love how protective Shane was of Diana and how Diana is so much more than she appears. She is strong and stubborn and sassy, sure, but she is also so genuinely supportive of not only Shane, but his teammates and his family. They are one of the best ever examples of fake dating with real feelings that develop so naturally as they listen to and appreciate each other as individuals and within their relationship. The communication, the spice, the kink, the banter, the humor, I loved ALL OF IT! That scene with Shane, Diana, and Will was HOT. The spice definitely spiced throughout this whole book, it was stupid filthy good.
Diana and Shane simultaneously challenged each other to be the best version of themselves (with a heavy dose of banter) while supporting one another through the hardest of times. I did NOT see the two conflicts at the end coming and they had me crying and rooting for this couple more than I already was. Can’t wait for the rest of the series!
