I finished this book today and I didn't realize that the whole time I was reading this book I was waiting for the other shoe to drop, because all the stories we hear about migrants are always so tragic, but this one, at the end is hopeful.

This story feel real, and yes, there are tragic things that happened,  things are of course sad a lot of the times, but they are also beautiful and hopeful.

This is the story of a family from Colombia  how life was, is and will be for the family, how traveling to the US for better opportunities is really like, how they actually have to live and survive and it begs the question, what is a better opportunity really?

It also made  me question of what really is a border? What are the limits? Who gets to stay or go? Who gets to decide these things? What is fair? Who deserves help? So many complex questions but most of all, what makes us? Is it our nationality? Our language? Our tradition? Our family?

What I liked most of this book is that the characters are complex, no villans, no heroes, just complicated people, with complicated choices to make.

So many stories about immigration feel like caricatures, this feels real. Definitely read.
