The Iron Flower by Laurie Forest
5.0

Well, I couldn’t help but review this even though I read it a while ago. This series is amazing, very well thought out, and just overall compelling and enjoyable.

It was one of those series I didn’t really pay attention to until someone said “hey read this, it’s good.” I’m glad I did, because I read the first one—the Black Witch—in a day, and was super depressed to have to wait a whole year for the next one. That alone says a lot.

Elloren, our wonderful protagonist, is a very interesting protagonist in that most wouldn’t like her initially. She’s made out to be, well ignorant, to a degree. But it’s so interesting to watch her ignorance slowly change and grow into something knowledge and understanding and furthermore ACCEPTANCE of other races and cultures.

Moving forward with the romance. It’s utterly amazing, slow-burning (in a good way) and doesn’t take away from the plot one bit. The relationship between the two stirs a lot of emotion in that Laurie doesn’t make it easy for them. It’s torture, but the good kind of torture.

For the Iron Witch, I was happy that the romance continues to develop, we find out some shocking information, friendships are tested, and Elloren is put through the ringer again! She can’t seem to get a break. But of course, watching her grow, and watching her overcome these obstacles is what makes the series so enjoyable. Laurie’s writing is also very detailed, very eloquent, and her words paint the picture very clearly. You won’t be disapppoitned!

This will forever be a series in my top 5, or even top 3, because I would read this again and again, and again. So I bow to you Laurie, and the amazing world you have built!
