The Stone Sky by N.K. Jemisin

3.0

I am afraid that I waited too long from finishing the second book to reading the third. I forgot too many names and this made me a bit confused through about the first half of The Stone Sky. Because of this, I did not like this book so much. The focus is on Essie and Nessun almost exclusively. Schaffa is with Nessun and has a part but not much character stuff. Essie and Nessun have been separated for about two years. There is a good bit of "remembering" to fill background by Essie but the focus is to get to Corepoint. Essie's goal is to get the moon back into orbit with the earth and hopefully ends the seasons, Nessun's goal is to destroy the earth. The parallels to current events and commentary came through. How we treat each other and place groups of people into unnecessary categories seemed to be more obvious in this last book. A quote from the book worth remembering:

But there are none so frightened, or so strange in their fear, as conquerors. They conjure phantoms endlessly, terrified that their victims will someday do back what was done to them-even if, in truth, their victims couldn’t care less about such pettiness and have moved on. Conquerors live in dread of the day when they are shown to be, not superior, but simply lucky
