This is one of the stories where the ending starts and then it goes back and retells the whole story. So you learn immediately that Mia has just given birth to a beautiful baby and she is very sick because her kidney was damaged. Her sister who was playing in the US Olympic soccer game and won comes to her bedside to meet the baby and she's told she must give up her kidney in order to save her sister but that obviously would mean she can't play soccer anymore. And then the story rewinds to before they were born. Their mom got pregnant as a teenager and later you learn it was from her soccer coach. She moved out of her very wealthy parents home and made a fresh start in a coastal town in Maine. A woman took pity on her and gave her a great job. She had Mia and worked very hard for everything. Then one day Mia's father shows up and they are together for a summer and out of that Mia sister cricket is born. Mia is her mom's tragedy and she works with her everyday to make her a soccer star. Then cricket comes along and the mom realizes cricket is actually better at soccer. So together her and Mia give up the whole lives to help cricket realize hers. Mia grows up far too fast and helps raise cricket and manage the house and she goes away to college. Then she's called because her mother has died in a car accident. So she comes home and and raises her sister. She falls for her crickets soccer coach and they get together after cricket is finished with high school soccer. Mia gave up so much to help raise cricket and after she graduates she continues to push her to become better and so does Mia's husband. They help her train and get her on the Olympic team. She is the backup keeper but then the starting keeper who is a very good friend of hers gets hurt in the game and she gets put in. She ends up saving the game and then finds out her sister is sick. She ghosts her sister for like a year. She isn't sure what to do because their whole lives have been about her playing soccer. Then the keeper who got hurt comes and finds her and talks to her and helps to realize that soccer is not everything. That keeper and cricket actually start dating. Cricket goes home, gives her sister her kidney and then is cheering on her girlfriend. The keeper as a coach. Really great novel about giving up everything for someone else's streams and entanglements of siblings and all the drama that comes with it.
