A Monster Calls
by Patrick Ness
Over the past year or so, Ness has become one of my all-time favorite authors. I’d read his grocery list if he sent it to me. There’s an ancient monster outside thirteen-year-old Conor’s bedroom window, and Conor doesn’t know if it is there to hurt him or help him. But what this book is really about is a boy having to deal with the terminal illness of his mother. That’s the real monster.
