The story started out really good. An interesting plot, likeable characters, mystery, intrigue, a spooky island with a Gothic vibe? Fantastic.
But it really just went downhill from there.
So many sideplots just didn't get resolved, a lot of choices or actions didn't make sense for the characters, and the whole "professor x student" thing got pushed way too far into the realm of kinda cringe.
By the last 15% of the book I was rolling my eyes and speed reading to get through the cheesy, predictable, and unrealistic plot.
