Her Wicked Marquess
by Lisa Torquay
*ARC was graciously provided by the author for review purposes. This does not affect the rating.*
A decadent Regency romance with a strong-willed, lovely heroine and a sensual, forward-thinking hero, Her Wicked Marquess was a definite page-turner. Author Lisa Torquay never fails to entertain with her interesting storylines. But it's when the envelope is pushed, giving us unique characters who stand on their own--but are better when together--that her work truly shines. And that is exactly what happened between Hester and Drake.
I really do adore historical romance that shows women standing up for their position in the world in a realistic way while still being right on the edge of what was acceptable at the time. Hester was an actress, and those around her and in the ton would never dream she would be the one to end her liaison with Drake. She was smart in doing so. But the passion between Hester and her marquess wouldn't abate. Oh, how I loved their connection! And I loved that Drake was enthralled with Hester--with her strength and intelligence. He didn't necessarily follow society's rules and enjoyed the fact that she was a talented actress, which was wonderful to see.
Through the clever plot twists and the scandal that I just knew was around the corner for our unlikely but perfect for each other couple, Her Wicked Marquess was a sweepingly romantic, sigh-worthy story.
