First I thought i would give this book a solid 3.5 but the characterization of Lady Tan and her friend Meiling(I forgot to add) or more like the layer of characters(their guilt, manipulation, envy, jealousy ,helplessness, overthingking, like every bit of human emotion) is what made it a 4.25
