The Brothers Hawthorne by Jennifer Lynn Barnes

5.0

I really enjoyed this!! I have seen some mixed reviews and I think how much you like this book really depends on how you felt about the characters by the end of the original inheritance games trilogy. Personally I loved the trilogy and found this a great continuation of the story without dragging any old plot lines.

One thing I really liked was that Grayson got his own storyline and time to figure out his stuff because his character kind of felt incomplete after the final gambit. I was worried I wouldn't be so interested in his perspective but I found myself highly enjoying both his and Jameson's storylines.
I also loved seeing the brothers spend time together and be brothers! It's always fun when they all have scenes together and I think JLB showed their relationships really well here.

If there is one thing JLB always nails it's found family. The found family in the inheritance games trilogy was top tier and I'm so glad that was an element of this book as well. I liked that it continued to show the character dynamics from characters we previously knew but also developed that (or planted the seeds) with new characters.

Sorta spoilers for the inheritance games trilogy!
Another thing I loved was how well Avery and Jamesons relationship was so strong and how they work together so well; it didn't feel like it was repetitive or overdone. Sometimes when theres a will-they-wont-they relationship it can get boring or become no longer interesting after they do end up together, but that is not how it felt here. I really loved their dynamic and how exhilarating their plot line was in this book.

One thing I wish we saw more of was max and libby!! they were mentioned a couple times but not seen nearly as much as I wanted and I hope we see more of them in the grandest game (which I am immensely looking forward to)!
