Honor by Danielle Baker
4.5
Honor is the third book in the Sky Ridge Hotshots series, and follows Teddy and Xander. We got bits and pieces of these two in the prior books, so I couldn't wait to get their full story. This book is beautifully written and much more emotional than I expected, but I enjoyed every second of Teddy and Xander's journey.
Xander is the superintendent of his firefighter crew and Cal's best friend. He is dedicated to a career that comes with dangers he can't control, and doesn't have room in his life for a relationship. Enter Teddy. She is a recently widowed, single mom of two with one on the way, who moved to Sky Ridge to rebuild her life. Teddy also happens to be Cal's little lister. Xander has been secretly in love with Teddy for years, but she was completely off-limits. Now they are neighbors, and Xander can't stay away. Spending time with Teddy and her children starts to change Xander's ideas about what his future could look like.
I loved Teddy and Xander together. It takes some time for their relationship to develop, however, they both have completely understandable fears. Witnessing them work through their fears, grow as people, and discover they were exactly what each other needed, was really satisfying. Teddy is dealing with a lot. She is navigating grief, trying to be the best mother possible, and wants so badly to create an environment her family can thrive in. Xander proved that he was the best man for her. He consistently showed up for Teddy and her children, and showed her it was ok to let love into her heart again. Teddy and Xander had an amazing connection and undeniable chemistry. This is a slow-burn, but when things start to heat up, they HEAT UP. Xander has a mouth on him, and every single time he called her "mama", I melted.
The found family element in this story was perfect. I loved getting to know this amazing group and how supportive they all are of each other. Sky Ridge Hotshots is a great series, and Teddy and Xander's story was an amazing way to wrap things up.
Narration:
Vanessa Edwin and Aiden Snow perform this audiobook in duet, and it is just as amazing as you'd imagine it would be. These two voice actors are phenomenal, and their performances made this a really enjoyable listening experience. This story is very emotional, and Vanessa and Aiden made Teddy and Xander's journey feel real. They both fully embodied the characters and perfectly captured their strength, fears, self-doubt, vulnerability, and love for each other. This was the perfect narrating duo for this story, and I highly recommend this audiobook.
