25 Days 'til Christmas by Poppy Alexander
1.0
TW: grief, depression, loneliness, poverty, learning disorders
Synopsis:
Marketed as a “heartwarming” and “feel good” holiday novel… this novel is about a young woman called Kate who has lost the Christmas spirit due to her husband dying while serving in the army a few years ago and now she’s in a bit of a rocky situation financially. Daniel lost his sister the year before and it’s his first Christmas without her, he hopes that Kate can help him.
Opinion:
A feel good and heartwarming festive novel??? Was it f*ck. This book was so unbelievably depressing it was unreal. There was no romance for the first half of the book despite Daniel and Kate being the main characters and the synopsis on the back alluding to the pair being romantically involved. I understand the book was highlighting how Christmas is not always a time for happiness due to loss and poverty as I don’t have the same joy in the season anymore due to grief but honestly the book didn’t have to be so dull and depressing.
Please approach this book with caution, it is not a light and fluffy festive read like some versions of the cover depict (the cover was marketed as a Christmas scene when I bought it and it arrived a plain white cover). I am genuinely so disappointed in this book so I’m hoping the rest of my Christmas TBR can make up for it
