While it certainly embodies Adams' voice and spirit, this first Dirk Gently is not quite at the level of Tea-Time for commentary, or Hitchhiker for sheer nonesense. It is enjoyable and worth reading, but I would not recommend it as an introduction to Douglas Adams, as it's scattered format, while working well in terms of plot, would be difficult to follow without some trust in the author and under the unique auspices of a Holistic Detective Agency.
