3.5⭐️ I want to say right off the bat that this has much talk of loss of children and miscarriages, so please be aware of that before going into it.
The idea of children being born with also fantasy like characteristics like scales and horns is unique and interesting. I loved our main character. She was smart and stood up for herself throughout. I also enjoyed the sapphic romantic subplot.
This weaves historical fiction, fantasy and horror together in a way that I absolutely loved. The atmosphere is surprisingly successful as well.
Think period piece that includes the elements of social status and class while weaving in a bit of witchcraft.
My downside is I wanted more, but that usually happens with me and shorter books. I was also a bit underwhelmed with how the truth and ending played out.
