If you are an animal lover and curious about the complexities of humanity I think this is a good book for you to try. I spent at least the first half of this debut novel really struggling to get into the story and get attached to the characters. I debated giving up (something I very rarely do), but I trudged through. I am so glad I didn't call it quits. The 2nd half had me really needing to know what was going to happen and actually feeling for many of the characters (as mad at their life choices as I may have been). By the time I put it down I actually didn't want it to end.
