The Wee Free Men
by Terry Pratchett
Read this one aloud to / with my daughters. The five-year-old was mostly amused by the Nac Mac Feegles’ accent (or rather my attempt at them), especially at “Waily waily waily.” The eight-year-old butchered the accent right along with me and had a grand old time.
As for the story itself, I really like how Tiffany grew, and how her (and Granny Aching’s) “magic” is more akin to self-actualization than the supernatural. I hope that my daughters (and myself, for that matter) can be as strong as her.
