This book is a serial killer romance — full stop. It doesn’t shy away from the gimmick, which I appreciate, but it loses steam when actually developing the main characters and their relationships. The book broaches sensitive, significant character milestones but backs down when it’s time to actually explore them. Theoretically, this is a slow burn, but in practice, it’s instalove prolonged by a series of extremely awkward interludes. I didn’t necessarily dislike it, but it was a chore to get through the middle slump.
