Mindhunter: Inside the FBI's Elite Serial Crime Unit by John E. Douglas

If you thought this was going to resemble the show in any way, steer far away from this one and look elsewhere to get your true crime fix, or just re-watch the show. Its so good, and deserves a third season.

This book takes way too long to get to the point, spends far too little time talking about the point and instead spends a lot of time letting John Douglas practice his self aggrandizing in the form of prose. I haven't read many stories before from anyone that thinks this highly of themselves and isn't a celebrity. You would think that he has never made a mistake, was innately good at profiling from a young age (literally something he talks about or thinks of himself), and knows what we really want instead of stories about how these techniques or precedents that were used in investigations were developed, is stories about he and his buddies getting drunk and driving in college or just instinctively knowing that someone had a stutter because of prior experience.

It goes to show that he either is just keeping his cards close for fear of being revealed as someone lacking anything really special outside of above average intuition, or he really just loves himself and thinks that highly of himself.
