MINOR ROMANCE SPOILERS
This book felt like a Drarry fanfic that forgot it was a Drarry fanfic and got distracted by the worldbuilding halfway through. Like seriously, there is very little romance content in the second half and very little lead up to the romance other than Simon being obsessed with Baz (and in a I hate you way, which normally I’m 100% here for, but here it switched straight from I hate you to we’re allies but just friends to we’re making out now but nothing in Simon’s POV showed him developing romantic feelings before that).
Also I kind of feel like the author forgot bisexuality is a thing. Like, Simon dated Agatha for years, and even though the relationship didn’t have any love by the end, it seemed like Simon loved her once. But the moment he kissed Baz he was like, ok I’m gay and never really questioned that again (except for minor instances where he would be like, so am I gay since I kissed Baz and liked it? I guess so). But like, he used to be in love with Agatha, who’s a girl, so wouldn’t he be bi/pan?
One other thing that bothered me was that I kind of feel like Penny’s American bf existed for only two reasons:
1). To be this book’s version of Viktor Krum (because this book is 100% Harry Potter fan fiction)
2). To give some sort of reason as to why Penny and Simon never dated in the past
This book was somewhat enjoyable, though.
