A Little Princess by Frances Hodgson Burnett
5.0

I was first introduced to this wonderful children's book when my fourth grade teacher read it to my class. I fell in love with it then, and I still love it as an adult. Every little girl should read this classic story at least once in her life. It is a tale of a strong little girl who begins the story as a wealthy, excessively pampered child who still manages to treat others with kindness and respect. After a horrific change in fortune, Sara Crewe's life changes dramatically, but through the magic of her imagination and her own strong character Sara is able to endure her hardships with a strength that proves that one doesn't have to have wealth and privilege to be a princess. I just adore this story so much. Five huge stars!

2018 Audio Update -- This is only a review of the audio book version of this story. I've already declared my everlasting love for this story in my review of the kindle version. I adore this story. I loved it as a child. I love it as an adult. This is my first opportunity to hear it read as an audio book. My fourth grade teacher read this to my class, and I can't read this story without hearing her voice reading this delightful story. For that reason I was a bit worried that hearing another's interpretation of the text would bother me. I needn't have worried. Colleen Prendergast did a FANTASTIC job. She was able to capture the young voice of the main character of this story. Although the book is told in third person narration, it has the feel of being told by a child, not an adult. This was felt through the audio narration. I was enchanted. It was a delightful experience. I highly recommend this version of the story. Five stars. It was amazing!
