I first encountered this book a few years ago and was really turned off by the premise. You don't know me; where I'm from. But after hearing friends speak highly of it, I decided to give it another chance.
I ended up getting super challenged in all the right ways by this book. The timing turned out to be perfect. Being away from YWAM for the last month has had me pretty down; all my friends and my spiritual mentors are in Australia. How do I keep my relationship with God alive while I'm in college in Canada? Simple: spending time being loved by Jesus. Easier said than done, but absolutely worth it.
God spoke to me a lot through Captivating and it was a breath of fresh air. Identity is the core message, and it seems to be a topic that I really need a strong reminder of every now and then.
Plus, there's a lot of Lord of the Rings references. So bonus.
