Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury
5.0
“But you can't make people listen. They have to come round in their own time, wondering what happened and why the world blew up around them. It can't last.”
- Ray Bradbury, Fahrenheit 451
This was the first classic I have read, and it honestly felt like it wasn’t for me. But the message this book wants to convey was pretty accurate. I can’t believe that this book was written in 1953, the way this book depicts us today is astonishing. This book was about a fireman named Guy Montag. A fireman is someone who destroys books and the houses they are in. When Guy Montag met Clarisse, she enlightened Montag with, why does firemen start fires instead of stopping them. She also made Guy Montag question himself and everything that’s going on whether he is happy or not.
As what I have mentioned, this book’s message is about how modern technology has taken over our life. I honestly forgot that this book was written 60 years ago since the way it depicts us people in the modern world is pretty accurate. There is also a part in this book where it shows how media can easily be manipulated. Again, this is relevant in today’s world because of the wide spread of misinformation. Writing this review made me realize of two things. One, when I started to read this, I was feeling kind of bored out and not really hooked into the story and I honestly felt like dnf-ing it. But I had to push myself since it’s a classic and I need to start reading more classics. Second, this book made me realize a lot of things in this world. Again, I know I keep repeating myself but, the way this book portrays us people living in the modern world is really chilling. And that’s what I love about this book. The way technology has taken over our life now really made me realize that I should take some time to unplug myself with my phone and start exploring the world. We live in a world where technology is taking over everything and despite it having a lot of benefits to us, it can also have a lot of cons. I hope we can never live in a world where books and literature are being burned and taught to be illegal. Overall, I would give this book a 5 out of 5 stars. And I highly recommend this book.
