I read this book in my Environment and Disease Crises in China class back in college. I loved the class. But I especially loved the book, and how Prof. Gross discussed and explained how the story reflected the realities that not only China was and is experiencing, but how societal and environmental issues are a tragedy of the common. In terms of the book as a stand-alone book, it was such a great read even if I read it simply as a fiction book. The story, the characters, the way it was told, it was a fun read.
