Norwegian Wood by Haruki Murakami

3.0

This book is a beautifully written masterpiece, and I hate it with a passion. The narrator is a self-proclaimed “nice-guy” who thinks about nothing but sex, the woman he is in love with who doesn’t really know if she loves him back, and his odd roommate.

Simultaneously, the narrator lives in a world where all women are a fantasy, they all think he’s interesting, perfect, mysterious, “not-like-other-guys” and it reads as an extremely authentic story from the POV of someone whose idol is Jay Gatsby.

I thought the book had a lot of redeemable qualities, until a random p*do r*pe scene was thrown in there. That’s a no from me.

Despite this, it was captivating from start to end. I gave it three stars, but really, it’s either a one star or a five star depending on the time of day.
