The Thirteen Problems by Agatha Christie

4.0

Definitely one of my favorite Miss Marple's yet! I was expecting one overarching mystery, but instead the story is told with 13 smaller mysteries.

One of the reasons I enjoyed this so much is because we have the introduction of Sir Henry and I appreciate how much he values Miss Marple's deductive ability.

I realize that I have more knowledge as a reader than the characters do in the story. I know that Miss Marple is an excellent sleuth and has had many books written about her exploits. (Yes, I know she's a fictional character.) Still, it's frustrating to go through that same ring around of everyone doubting her and then eventually believing her. In real life, I'd be the same. I'd doubt her too, but it's something I occasionally get tired of in the books.

So when we get to the point of Sir Henry believing her, it's so refreshing, as Sir Henry is at all the tales told.

We also see characters already presented such as Dr. Lloyd and the Bantry's are introduced which will be significant for Miss Marple #3, The Body in the Library.

As for the mysteries, I was able to solve quite a few of them. I think by now a lot of the tropes have been done before, but I wasn't able to solve all of them.
SpoilerMiss Marple is, of course, able to solve all of them, which may be a little much. I keep thinking of it in video game stats, where she's overpowered in mystery solving. Still, that's what I want out of my Miss Marple. I was this little, old lady to out solve everyone. It works for me and probably why I enjoyed this book so much.
