I’m still mulling over this book. I found myself googling and Facebook searching her family as I read. It’s easy to paint their faces as villains in my mind, but seeing (what I assume to be) them made the story all the more tragic. I have so many thoughts rolling around. When I was about 50% through the book I was wholly convinced she wrote and published too early in her healing journey. Yet as I finished, I understood her need to share. What do we do when our parents - the people who should be our anchors to ourselves and truth- are the opposite of all that is good? When they love their sickness, money, and self more than their children? I’ll come back to this again and flesh it out more later. It makes me want to go knock on my neighbor’s door just to make sure I don’t fail my neighbor like her community (town, church, friends) committed: looking away and not pressing in to help.
