The Nice House on the Lake Vol. 1 by James Tynion IV

dark emotional mysterious sad tense medium-paced

4.5

I knew nothing going in aside from really liking a series from this author and very glad I didn't.

The only description I had was horror which tracked as his other series was explicitly monster based and gory as hell. There's some truly horrific imagery in this, but that's not the actual crux of the story. It's mindbending and awesome and ends with an excellent reveal/setup for the bacl half of the story.

The art is also gorgeous - just impressionistic enough while remaining unsettling and real.
