For some reason, the last book of the Ember series left me feeling a bit ... underwhelmed. It could not hold up to all the hype that had been building up throughout the series. It feels like the storyline goes in circles in this book - they are meeting the Nightbringer again and again but for some reason they never get to finish him off - until the grant finale. This finale, then, feels a bit too smooth for my liking, the resolution too easy.

I did not like the Nightbringer's story and how he ended up the way it is. I was expecting more evil and not just sadness to be the reason. Likewise, I would have wished for more background story for Keris's character. What made her end up the way it is?

During the third book, Helene ended up to be my favorite character. This feeling continued throughout the last book and only intensified. Her story is one of loss and heartbreak. She deserved so much better and I would have loved for her to have her happy ending.

Overall, I loved the Ember series. I think it is one of the best written series I have read in a long time and a series, everyone should pick up once in their life.
