Honestly was not expecting to like this as much as I did. It’s giving National Treasure meets The Mummy.

The main character had her obvious moments where it’s like baby girl why would you go and do that when it’s a clearly bad idea, however, there was tension - GOOD tension, which is hard to find - and an interesting and extremely twisty plot. Like, 3x the twists that I was expecting tbh. Though some things were still completely and extremely obvious.
The EXACT moment her cousin showed up in Cairo I wrote in my notes “I fear her cousin is going to die” - and, well, we know how that went. Sad death though??? Still took me by surprise at the emotion I felt afterwards.
Overall I’m hooked, I’ll read the second one.

I was, however, expecting more
magic?? I enjoyed the random various magical objects, but I was expecting to see more of her wielding since she connected so deeply with Cleopatra and she was able to see her memories. I thought we’d get a little more plot development from that connection but maybe we’ll see more in the second book..?
Anyways, I hope something comes from that little inclusion or else it feels kinda just like filler info.

Also, I listened to the audiobook version of this, and I was extremely impressed by the ability of the female narrator. She did accents extremely well and actually sounded like completely different people. However, the MALE narrator was  terrible. He was British so he sounded like Whit, but other than that his contribution ??? This is not a middle-school class read-aloud... can we have a little variation in pitch? I’ve never heard someone so monotone in a real audiobook. Very glad he had minimal appearances in the book or else it might have ruined the book.
