Not really a story so much as a description of the anticipated technological advances/changes in a future society, but this short essay does reveal something of the values, challenges, ambitions, and political relationships of 1898 in the world. I generously cataloged this as a classic, not for the quality of the writing so much as the historical significance of the writer(s), Jules and Michel Verne.
