La Despedida by Milan Kundera

3.0

After reading "The Unbearable Lightness of Being", this book seems like a regular, common novel. The misogyny latent he throughout the book is very unpleasant, but its not fair to take it as the main characteristic of the book. It should be judged by the way the author, especially an author like Kundera, expresses the philosophical ideas behind the book, and here is where one can feel it unsatisfying, as if Kundera was still in the middle of the process of becoming the great novelist he is. One chapter is worth mentioning, the one where Jakub compares himself to Raskolnikov, and the reasons of his murder. In this chapter, one could notice a similar style to the one in "The Unbearable Lightness of Being", and there's even a mention of the torture that the feeling of lightness could bring.
