Roxie and Alfred: A Story of Courage, Resilience, and Survival by Nancy R. Hinchliff

5.0

A charming, historical memoir that begins with the author’s grandparents - the Roxie and Alfred from the title – continues through the generations in between, and ends with the author’s own life.

From Roxie’s childhood, to Alfred’s time at sea, family life in the gangster-ridden 1920s Detroit, and the author’s own adventures and challenges, this family history memoir is a fascinating and enlightening read.

My own family have links with Detroit from that era so I especially enjoyed learning about that.

I can’t wait to read Nancy’s next memoir about the other side of her family.

By the way, I received my copy of Roxie and Alfred as a gift from the author.
