before reading this, i’ve always wondered why people never talked about this book— or why people despise this book; and i may have the answer.
danielle lori romanticized kidnapping, emotional abuse, and sexual assault in this book. in about 80% of the book, i was frustrated with ronan. he’s not my fav, and i don’t think he’ll ever be. do not get me wrong, i love what he did in the last chapters. he truly redeemed himself, but those actions cannot cover up his previous behavior. did he have a good character development ? absolutely. but do i still hate him ? very much, yes.
mila is one of the strongest female characters i have ever read. from her family problems, stockholm syndrome, and so much more. i adore her so much, she truly deserves the world. she and kat carried this book.
overall, this is just a disappointing read. i don’t know why people romanticize this book.
