The Innocents by Francesca Segal

I won this book from the Free Book Friday website and I originally entered to win it because it sounded interesting. When I received it I was excited to start reading it.

Unfortunately, I was bored. This is one of those books in which nothing extraordinary happens. It basically gives the reader a glimpse into a chapter into other people's lives. I didn't really like the main character, Adam. He's this man who has worked so hard to be part of a family he adores, and the minute some wrecked, broken woman comes into his life he chances everything for her. And then fools himself into thinking that he could so easily ditch everything he's worked for to be with her.

The book was a struggle for me to get through. I kept thinking that there were other books that I could be reading. And it frustrates me because the writing itself was really beautiful. I just didn't think that the story was anything to write home about.

Unfortunately I wouldn't recommend this book. Life's too short to read mundane stories.
