Meet Me at the Lake by Carley Fortune

3.75

I’m really glad this wasn’t the first book I read from this author because I think it would’ve turned me off from her work. I really loved the first book I read from her and even in this book I loved her writing, but I had a hard time liking the characters and understanding their decisions, which made it very difficult to root for them as a couple. I didn’t find either of the MCs particularly emotionally mature and Will especially had very few redeeming qualities about him. I felt like the last third of the book was rushed and disconnected with an unsatisfying resolution. I think Fern would’ve been better off waiting until  Will figured out how to be an adult who communicates properly before giving him another chance. One of the things that bothered me the most was the diary entries that were spread out among the regular chapters. I didn’t feel like they added any value and I kept waiting for some big drama but it never happened…I don’t understand what made Fern so upset the first time she read the diary and why it kept getting alluded to but then never explained. Overall I just wish the characters had been a little more likable so that this book could have the same magic that One Golden Summer did, but I still have high hopes for this author!
