Taking Shots
by Toni Aleo
I am very reluctantly giving this book 4 stars (actually more like 3.5). Even though in terms of writing, this book is fairly weak--the dialogue is very basic and repetitive much of the time--at the middle point of the book I was still going to give it a 5 as I loved it so much. And then Aleo made the terrible decision to write Elli as she goes freaking insane and loses all rationality and any semblance of being a believable character. At that point I was ready to throw the book down and quit because I was so frustrated with the complete uncharacteristic way she decided to write Elli for the rest of the book. At this point I would probably have rated it a 2. So in fairness for my earlier love of the book I am giving it 3.5 stars. Very reluctantly though. It had such great potential and then she messed it all up. But I am still going to give the rest of the series a shot as I know there is great potential there.
