Going There by Katie Couric
5.0

Well. I thought this was great. Katie was candid, honest, funny, and reflective. She didn’t shy away from pointing out AND owning her missteps, mistakes and outright gaffes; I don’t know why there was any controversy about this book and seriously don’t get those accusations. This book really did “go there” and I felt like it wasn’t sanitized at all - did it always paint her in the best light? No. But it also shared her hard-work story about her rise in tv while also navigating her personal life, husband and sisters deaths, and the trials and tribulations of being a woman in a patriarchal society.

I listened to the audiobook, read by the author, and I’m glad I did that instead of read it. Katie’s familiar voice and skilled ability to vocally deliver a story - combined with a storytelling way of writing - made sure I never tuned the book out by accident, or got lost with what was happening. That can happen often for me, with books that don’t do well as audio books.

5 stars. A thoroughly enjoyable, informative and often funny 15 hours for me.
