Divergent by Veronica Roth

5.0

This series is one of my absolute faves, its up there with The Hunger Games(My favourite) although I'd say the plot is totally different.

I'd been meaning to read this for a while however I'd been reading other things when I found it in the library. It actually hadn't been recommended to me and none of my friends had read it- I found it myself- and I'm dead glad I did!

Personally, I like a book that gets straight into it right away else I find it a bit slow. For me, Divergent does just this. Right from the get-go I was thoroughly interested in Beatrice's world and the factions.

I loved seeing the world through her eyes, feeling what she feels, hearing the dilemmas that real people have inside their heads. Tris is so relatable that I could pretend I was her.

The characters in general were well structured and realistic and the sub-characters were much the same. (I really like Christina)One thing that did annoy me though was the amount of times that I was screaming at the book 'NO! Don't do that you idiot!' because Tris made a lot of what I thought were 'stupid decisions' however, this just made her more realistic- people make mistakes- and some of the time, they turned out to be the right thing to do.

Overall, it ticked everything on my what-makes-a-good-book-list:
An original, gripping plot
A Strong, yet believable main character
Well developed characters
Lots of twists, turns and surprises
A setting that's easy to visualise
Just a hint of romance
A fantastic author

And there you have it!

As soon as I finished divergent, I started off on Insurgent which was just as good. I recently finished Allegiant too which in my opinion, was a great end to the trilogy.
