The Lost Princess by Debbie Dadey

4.0

I read this with my kids and it was a really good book with a strong message about being who you are and sticking to your own principles. Not to mention, it had amazing oceanic vocabulary with creative names. I kind of wish I'd started The Mermaid Tales in book one, but it was my daughter's library book choice. So, we will be starting soon with the other books if we can find them.

Shelly Siren lives in Trident City with her Grandfather and best friends. She's lived there all her life and enjoyed her life. One day, a teacher reveals that she's a princess and has proof from the genealogical records. She's a princess of the Western Ocean. Shelly didn't want to be a princess, she just wanted to be a regular mermaid. Peer pressure makes her question herself, but her grandfather and her friends remind her of who she is. Just Shelly Siren, a third-grade mermaid.
