Romancing the Inventor by Gail Carriger

3.0

I've only read the first book of the Parasol Protectorate before listening to this, and I think that may have been a mistake on my part. I'll admit that I don't remember all the details of Soulless, but I'm pretty sure that I didn't meet Genevieve in that book, and I think I would have enjoyed this one more if I had. I hadn't really realized that this one was connected to those when I picked it up, so I guess that's my bad.

Anyway, this is a very sweet little romance, but I struggled with it some of the elements of the romance. I don't care for some of the tropes that are used here, particularly those involving a lack of communication and a self-suffering attitude. They're not always bad things, but they're not very much my cup of tea.

I did like both of the characters, and I thought that Emma Newman's narration was spectacular. I also had a fun time with seeing some of the characters from Soulless, which is funny because I didn't really care that much for Soulless. Even though I didn't love this one, I felt like the seeds for possible love were there. I may have to give the Parasol Protectorate and Carriger's other books another chance.
