The Curmudgeon's Guide to Getting Ahead: Dos and Don'ts of Right Behavior, Tough Thinking, Clear Writing, and Living a Good Life by Charles Murray
5.0
What I like about this book is that I am a closet curmudgeon. Although I am in my early 30s, I completely relate to the author and his musings. Maybe being a part of the transition between Gen Xers and Millennials plays a role and I miss the good old days when new hires knew their place and had manners. Recently laid off after 10 years, I wonder if the curmudgeons in my organization misunderstood my intentions of finding work-life balance as an attack to their established way of life. This book helped me understand why.
You don't have to abide by the rules presented in the text but I can assure you that they will work until the day the last boomer retires and some will permeate culture due to values and virtues passed along in other parts of the world. There is always a place for formality and prudence, apply these well and you will go far in life.
