Sub Rosa by Amber Dawn

2.0

Not the book I should have chosen to read between classes, I was hoping it would bolster my knowledge of sexuality and gender while inspiring creative thinking - yes I plan out my books to best benefit my current courses and goals, no shame.
I read Amber Dawn's autobiography first, I follow her activism and events and think she's generally a woman I want to know and think her voice is an important one in modern politics. Unfortunately for me this work was a disappointment, it's her first piece of writing and her auto (which is most current) was better written so I know she improves in style and skill. The plot had holes, characters were inconsistent and unbelievable, I feel like there was so much to work with and this selfish reader wanted more! More about the monsters in the dark (the stone beetles were neat, what else is there!>), more about the history of Sub Rosa, more about what happened to lost characters: the Widower (and his wife, what's that about), Arsen's past, The mechanic living in the dark (and if anyone else lived there, how and why). The list of cons goes on, for now I haven't given up on Amber Dawn and will explore another of her fantasies, though first I'll take a break for something more focused on the classes this semester.

*Dives back into non-fiction sexual psychology section* Science is sexy.
