V is for Virgin by Kelly Oram
4.0
I enjoyed this book. I was a little leery of it at first because of the title. But, I was pleasantly surprised with the light-hearted writing, yet serious take on an issue I believe in.
Throughout the book, I appreciate Val's steadiness in her beliefs. I dislike how some of her friends treat her and her pledge to virginity, especially Cara who tosses the concept aside without really taking Val into consideration.
I thought the characters developed well, even Kyle. Kyle seems to be mostly the same guy throughout the book, but he continues to grow and show his sensitive, kind side and by the epilogue, we see that he really has changed.
I plan to get my hands on the second book 'A is for Abstinence' and see if it is as good as the first.
Spoiler
Val is a virgin. But she continues to face the pressures of giving in to have sex...after all, how do you show you really love someone and are compatible with them without having sex? But she holds strong to her belief, even in the face of strong feelings and chemistry with rock star Kyle Hamilton, who is convinced that Val is the one for him. Kyle even writes a song for Val about his thoughts on her virginity and belief that she should save herself for marriage.Throughout the book, I appreciate Val's steadiness in her beliefs.
