Maigret's Patience by Georges Simenon

3.0

One of the things I have always enjoyed about Simenon's stories about Chief Inspector Maigret is the steady pace and speed with which the mystery is revealed and solved. No need for sudden drama or melodramatic denouements. Step-by-step Maigret investigates adding details, asking the relevant questions, sending his trusted Inspectors out to find him the information he requires in order to out the pieces together. I want to be clear, by steady I do not mean boring. I mean that it's not action packed and, for me, that's a good thing because Simenon can write engaging stories and characters without needing to resort to cheap thrills to get me to turn the pages.

I won't say much about the story-line itself; there's a murder, Maigret solves it, taking the reader with him as he works through the clues, the interviews, the re-interviews. As always, a well-crafted and thought out novel by Simenon.
