Trombone Shorty
by Troy Andrews
This is a cool, true story of a kid growing up in New Orleans, inspired by the music around him. I like that it really sounds like a kid's voice telling the story, and it's not too pretentious. The illustrations are cool, with some photo collage mixed in. I also think kids would enjoy seeing the real pictures of the author as a young boy with his trombone, and even on stage with Bo Diddley. I feel like you'd have to have the right kind of kid to really enjoy this book, maybe someone really into music? This would be a great read for this year's TDSRC theme - indulge your passions. 4+
