schenkelberg 's review for:
Norwegian Wood
by Haruki Murakami
Norwegian Wood stands out from everything I read this year for the sheer emotional power it carries. I was reading it one day on a bench on campus and teared up, and had to take a minute to pull myself together before I went in to work. I don't think many other books have that sort of emotional lurch, or at least for me. It gets really, unbearably sad, it levels everything out and really gives you that feeling you get when you walk out of a movie theatre – okay, this is me now, back to real life – except prolonged for days. This is Murakami at his finest.
