agnesnutter 's review for:
The Burnout Society
by Byung-Chul Han
it saddens me a bit to think of how over the years the internet digestion of things has cheapened the ideas from this essay, running with the word/concept of burnout without really engaging with its reality.
While I do think that at times Han traces clear boundaries between disciplinary/achievement societies that aren't really that solid in practice (at least not in my corner of the global south) the way he reads late modernity is incredibly refreshing (and very depressing, funnily enough.)
