Split Tooth

..... not sure what I just read.
At first I found this to be a powerful but uncomfortable read. I was not sure what to expect from this book so the amount of sexual assault caught me off guard, and the throat singing between chapters of the audiobook was something I had to get used to.
This book is a mash-up of multiple genres: memoir, poetry, fantasy/magical realism, fiction and myth. There is a lot of allegory, combined with retellings of myths and traumatic experience.
It's about life growing up in the midst of current and historical injustices of colonialism, the residential schools, substance abuse, and generational trauma.
I felt the dissociation of the character and the heartbreak. The ending really made this book worth it for me. I was initially going to leave it unrated, as I don't like poetry or metaphorical story telling. I am someone who likes a clear plot. Because of this I had no way of giving any ratting. until the end. This book is going to stick with me and I need to reread it.
