I wasn't thrilled with the way the Indigenous rep showed up in this book; the antagonist bastardized the culture and the heroine vaguely leverages a heritage that only appears when it's convenient for the narrative. So that diminished how I felt about the book overall. I also struggled a bit with Cooper as a viable hero because the relationship felt splattered with red flags. The setting and Lil's character development around wildlife rescue were the highlights of the read for me though.
