The Power by Naomi Alderman
5.0

This at-a-glance feminist fantasy of everything changing is really a tale about nothing changing at all - it's a treatise on power: what it does to those who wield it; what it does to those subjugated by it. It compels us to create a world where might does not make right, to account for the ongoing legacy of our history, a history where brute force was law. The Power is excellent allegorical sci fi - clever, fun, so inventive, yet so familiar. The interwoven stories of characters living through the great transition from male to female domination are wonderfully compelling and the wry, tongue-in-cheek editorial letters bookending it all are the cherry on top.
